Gift Graphic Setting up your wedding list

Thank you for considering Our Wedding List to organise your wedding present list. We hope that the information below will tell you a bit more about Our Wedding List and the service that we provide.

Getting Started
Lists can be compiled either from our Edinburgh showroom, or once registered, directly on our web site. Most couples will come and see us for an initial consultation. We will fix a time that is convenient to you - during the day, in the evening or at the weekend.

For your convenience we have set up a 'sample' list on the website, allowing you to get an idea of what you could put on your wedding list. To view this list please go to the 'Bride and Groom Login' and insert 'sample' under the username and password. To view items in the OWL catalogue please click on 'add items to list'. The OWL catalogue is only a fraction of all the gifts that we offer, so we would urge you to make an appointment with the office to see the full range.

If you are interested in using our service, why not make an appointment to have a look around the showroom. This is a very easy and relaxed way to get a better feel for how our service operates and the sort of presents you might like to choose. A show around normally takes about half an hour and can be booked at reasonably short notice.

Compiling your list
Over a glass of wine or a cup of tea we will talk through your ideas and offer advice and guidance through the process of choosing your wedding presents. There are no clip-boards to carry around or forms to fill out. We have a number of popular items in stock, and a very wide range of product catalogues.

For your convenience you can also start to compile your list by registering on line and using our on-line catalogue. However once the list has been finalised all amendments will be made via OWL.

Ordering Your Presents
Our Wedding List will order your presents from our suppliers. On return from honeymoon you will be advised of all the presents that have been bought from your list and a purchase order will be made. Once you have agreed the purchase order, you should expect to receive your presents 6-8 weeks later.

Informing Your Guests
We are often asked how best to inform guests about a wedding list. Without a doubt the key to a successful list is to ensure your guests know where your list has been placed. This can be a delicate matter since the concept of a wedding list is unfamiliar to some people.
We recommend one of these two methods:

1. We can supply the bride and groom with cards to put in with their wedding invitations stating that a list is held with OWL. The vast majority of couples choose this method. It is a good idea to provide both sets of parents with a few cards to keep by the telephone.

2. Alternatively, if you are sending out any instructions, including maps and places to stay, with your wedding invitations, a short paragraph can be added at the end along the lines of :-
"For those who may be interested, a wedding list has been placed with Our Wedding List. For further information please telephone 0131 552 4439, or visit the list on the internet at www.owl-online.co.uk"

Purchasing Presents
Your friends and relatives are able to get information or purchase gifts from the list simply by phoning our office or visiting our web site. Gifts can be purchased in a variety of ways:

  • By Telephone
  • By Fax
  • By E-mail
  • On-line from our website

Some guests might prefer to see the present they are purchasing, and therefore, are more than welcome to make an appointment to visit our Edinburgh showroom.
Payment can be made either by cheque, by credit card or by direct debit card. Guests are encouraged to add a special message to accompany the present. A receipt is posted to the guest, which acts as confirmation of their choice of present.

Regular Updates
To keep you fully informed, we send a weekly summary of all the gifts purchased over the course of the week, giving details of your guest’s name and address, the gift and the message. Many couples make a head start on their thank-you letters on the basis of this report.

After your wedding
On return from honeymoon you will be advised of all the presents that have been bought from your list. At this point you may chose to buy some of the items not bought on your list. A purchase order will then be made. Once you have agreed the purchase order, you should expect to receive your presents 6-8 weeks later.
We will contact you to arrange a delivery date that is convenient to you.
